Product Description:

The Happy Valley UMF 15+ Manuka Honey is a 8.8oz / 250g jar of raw honey that contains a minimum standard of UMF 15+ (they also quote MG 510+).  It is a wonderful and natural source of plant phenols and is jam packed with the unique full flavour of manuka and the associated health benefits.

The UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) has been independently verified by a testing laboratory and is the measure of the unique levels of MG (methylglyoxal) and other unique chemical markers which are specific to the Leptospermum scoparium (Manuka Bush Plant).  For a more detailed explanation of the manuka honey rating system explained, please click here.

UMF is the trademark of the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association of New Zealand (UMFHA) and they set the international quality benchmark for this product.

I always feel better when I see that producers are part of this quality association.

  2. Hi,
I like your review, just bought happy valley umf 18+. Only been taking it for 4 days, i have bad cold now, but i think manuka honey helps a lot reducing the runny nose and sore throat. I’m thinking of buying another jar with different umf, shall i buy umf 15+ and use it for daily maintenance and use umf 18+ for medicinal purpose, or buy umf 20+ for medicinal and use uf 18+ for daily. Please advise… Thanks

    1. Hi Betty,

Thank you so much for stopping by and for your kind words. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I have been away on holidays.

I really like that you got a great result. Thank you for sharing your personal story. Manuka Honey can be really expensive. So as a consumer it’s best if you pause for a moment and consider what are the main benefits you are looking for at the time of purchase? That way you can match your need with the strength / level or help required.

Hot Tip – Manuka honey can have different “grading scales” depending on the manufacturer. So you should pick one rating scale and stick with that one so that you don’t get confussed. Personally I like the UMF rating scale because it’s the market leader. Please stay away from “active” or “bio-active” or a generic (nothing) 25+ ratings. They are not equal to a UMF rating and only confuse the consumer.

In order to get the “up lift” and great benefits from manuka honey you need to get a UMF 5 as a MINIMAL. Some people sell a UMF 2 rating – but there’s not enough benefit in this tiny rating to justify the higher prices, so don’t pay extra for it.
Another popular product with little benefit is a MGO 30 rating. In short I consider this rating is too low to bother with paying the higher price for this product, so I have never purchased this product.

UMF 5 is considered a great daily dosage for overall general health and is also the minimum strength to still get great benefits from.
UMF 10 is what I personally buy because I know how to shop around and get genuine product at a great price.
UMF 12-15 is considered a “medical dose” and should be used when you have a high level problem that you want help with.
UMF 18 is considered really high. Please only purchase products from companies with a great reputation – like you have before. That is your best protection to make sure that you are not scammed.
UMF 20- 24 Genuine products in this range are SUPER, SEPER rare to get. Please pause before purchasing so that you can be sure you are purchasing genuine product only. There are a SMALL number of location / bee hives capable of producing a mono-flower (single flower) honey of this quality. That is why the price is high and typically sells out by industry players pretty quickly. Always pause before purchasing this level of UMF. Only purchase this level of UMF through a quality producer / recognised market leader.
**Please note, I have NEVER personally purchased products to this level due to the high risk of fakes.

A popular tactic of scammers in the higher price points is just to list it as 25+ So my question is always “25 what?” If it’s not UMF 25 from a great company, then you need to assume it’s probably GMO 25+ (which is a TINY UMF, if at all). Please don’t be tricked into paying high prices for confusing labelling.

Anything “bio-active”, “active”, “enhanced” blah blah blah…… These are not UMF ratings. Don’t waste your time trying to remember what these “special codes” mean. Just stick to UMF rating from a genuine producer and you will be fine.

      So in closing
Anything below UMF 5 is just not worth paying the extra money for
UMF 5 is the minimum level to get any real benefits from
UMF 10 is my personal choice (for what it’s worth)
UMF 12-15 is considered getting towards “medical grade”
UMF 18-24 please pause and only purchase products in this range from a producer with a great reputation or the industry market leaders. Like you did before. The risk of fakes is really high.
UMF 25+ As a personal comment only, I will just assume it’s a fake move on. I have personally never come across this at a regular consumer level. I would be expecting a RRP of $300 or more and the only way to tell that you have not been scammed is through a laboratory test. So the risk of fakes is MASSIVE. Personally, I would just drop it back to UMF 12-15 from a company with a great reputation instead.

      Hope that helps.

Good luck with everything and thanks for stopping by.
