  • A standout particular compound is Allilcin. It has many wonderful antimicorobial effects.  It works against many viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites.  In order to maximise the levels of Allilcin the garlic clove must be either crushed or cut.  This then activates the enzyme allinase, which metabolizes alliin to allicin, and allicin has the wonderful benefits we are chasing. (source: Herballegacy.com, 2017).

Today we are looking at some of the benefits of Honey and Garlic when combined together.

How do you use honey or garlic at home?  Do you have it straight up, or crushed or mixed together.  Do you use both ingredients in your family cooking?  Do you have a favourite natural remedy you would like to share?

Honey and GarlicGarlic is one of the oldest cultivated plants on earth. In the ancient Egypt, garlic was considered a symbol of the universe.  In the middle ages, it was used in the fight against evil spirits and vampires.

It contains these magical properties because sulphur vapours emanate from garlic which kills bacteria and viruses, disinfect air and body.

Garlic contains about 200 active substances among which vitamins, minerals amino acids and enzymes healthy and bio-active compounds that contain sulphuric therapeutic action. It also has anti-biotic and anti-fungal effects with special effects for health. This substance occurs when the cloves are cut or crushed, so it is recommend that garlic be eaten raw and unprocessed.

The sulphide contained in garlic cloves is many times stronger than anti-biotics.

This natural remedy does not work as fast as medicines, but has power over almost all body organs, managing to eliminate a lot of diseases and ailments. Each year over 15 days we consume over 15-20 cloves of garlic daily.  This can cure many ailments in the body. It can help with anti-aging because it destroys the deposits of euric acid in the body and blood stream lines.

Garlic also protects against cardio vascular disease and against cancer of the inteston and has a curative effect on many other cancers, fight against diabeties and increase the proportion of cholesterol in the blood. Strengthens the immune system and is a powerful tonic and stimulant.

Garlic calms nervousness headaches and migranes, rheumatism. Struggling with cough and lung disorders.  Among other benefits, garlic combats multiple scerlousis, corns, worms and thickens skin.  It can cure vaginal infections it is effective against constipation, diaherria, flatulence and protects the liver and helps to burn toxins.  It is an excellent natural antidote for bites of snake, rat, rabid animal, viper bites, or other venomous animals. Such as scorpion, insect bites against ingestion of toxic plants and the consumption of very old or damaged food.

Garlic contains allicin which helps decrease apetite and helps the natural loss of weight.

But if we combine garlic with natural honey, it’s effects are enhanced.  Garlic combined with honey is considered an old rememdy.  Known for it’s spectactular effects that it has on the body. These two components, raw, each complete each other accellarating their healing qualities.

Honey And Garlic JarA mixture of honey and garlic has a protective effect on the heart, lowers bad cholesterol and blood pressure.  It is useful to persons who are undergoing chemotherapy helping to detoxify the body.  It has anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties.

It strengthens the immune system and helps protect you from colds. It relieves pain caused by osteoarthritis and has an anti-cancer effect.

There are basically two ways to mix garlic with honey.

One of these methods is to infuse 10-20 cloves of garlic with one glass of honey, leaving the mixuture in the refrigerator for several days.

Then we eat for 7 days, every morning, a spoonful of this mixture on an empty stomach.

Honey And Garlic CrushedThe second way is to crush a clove of garlic and then leave it at room temperature for 5 minutes. Because this will activate the enzymes that will convert it into a superfood and then mix it with a little honey and swallow without chewing.  You can drink a glass of water with this mixture, because that’s easier to swallow.

Also, this mixture we will be administrating in the morning, on an empty stomach for seven (7) days.  If you are wondering why the morning and why on an empty stomach and why for seven days?  Here is the answer.

Allicin from garlic is easily absorbed when eaten on an empty stomach. So the morning is the best time to consume this mixture. And we think that these treatments are recommended for at least 7 days. Everything has logic.

Honey And Garlic Crushed On A SpoonDon’t forget that the consumption of garlic is contra-indicated for people diagnosed with bleeding disorders, digestive disorders, stomach, those undergoing treatment for AIDS and those who will be undergoing surgery in the next 10-14 days.

Honey Lemon Water

Helps boost your energy

  • Improves your mood
  • Improves the function of the colon (we don’t want the build up of toxins in our body).

You will need:

  • Pitcher (jug) ($7.99 from Target, America)
  • Raw Honey (3/4 cup)
  • 1 whole lemon (sliced)
  • 30 oz hot water
  • Measuring cup
  • Spoon to stir/ mix up the ingredients

In the Pitcher (jug) mix all the ingredients together.

Honey first, then the lemon, then the 30 oz of hot water.  The water needs to be hot to dissolve the honey.  Use a spoon to mix all the ingredients together and make sure that the honey has fully melted.  You can then add extra cold water to dilute the mixture to your personal tastes.

Manuka Honey Rating System

Manuka Honey Rating System

This slide helps explain UMF and MGO, Source Comvita, 2017

Don’t get ripped off next time you go to purchase Manuka Honey.  Many customers over pay for their Manuka Honey simply because they don’t know which products are authentic and genuine and worth the extra price.  A quality Manuka Honey Rating System would definitely help people out here.  Join us as we attempt to explain the two most common rating systems used to identify the quality level of Manuka Honey.

This chart will help you next time you go to make a purchasing decision, because you will know that the higher number is worth the extra money.  Don’t get ripped off ever again!

Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) Honey rating system

There are two main Industry Rating Systems used today.  The first one is called the Unique Manuka Factor (UMF) Honey rating system.  It is an international trademarked rating system owned by the Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association.

Unique Manuka Factor Honey Association. Source UMF.org.nz 2017

The New Zealand producer needs to pay for an independent laboratory test to prove the purity and quality of the Manuka Honey contained in the jar. These include: the key markers of Leptosperin, Hydroxymethylfurfural (DHA) and Methylglyoxal.  (source: http://www.umf.org.nz)

The UMF rating system tests the level of antibacterial performance of raw Manuka honey and compares it to a known disinfectant – phenol. This means that a UMF rating of 20+ is equivalent in strength to a 20% solution of phenol.

In order for a jar of Manuka Honey to be considered “active”, it must have a UMF of 10+ (source: Aliveplushoney, 2017).

Methylglyoxal Rating System MG or MGO

The MGO rating is a trademarked measure of the Methylglyoxal content of Manuka honey. The trademark owners are Manuka Health New Zealand Ltd. Industry competitors often use the generic term MG to represent the levels of Methylglyoxal found in their honey. The MGO rating (or MG rating) measures the levels of Methylglyoxal content ONLY and it does NOT measure the levels of Leptosperin or Hydroxymethylfurfural (DHA).

Manuka UMF and MGO explained by Manuka Natural

Video Author: Manuka Natural                   Date Published: Nov 26, 2013

Welcome to Manuka Natural in New Zealand. I am Bill Gluyas and in an earlier video I mentioned the relationship between the compound Methylglyoxal referred to on some Manuka Honey labels as MGO and the longer standing method of interpreting the antimicrobial activity of Manuka Honey, UMF or Unique Manuka Factor.

Now today, I have drawn a small graph, its just indicative only. It gives us the relationship of the quantity of Methylglyoxal in Manuka Honey and the UMF Rating.

So you can see here that if we had a UMF level of for example of UMF 10+, it would be somewhat similar to around about 200 to 250 on the scale of Methylglyoxal which is measured in milligrams per kilogram of honey.

It’s not a linear, its not a straight line graph.  As the UMF level of certification increases upto say UMF 25+, which is really quite rare, the proportion of Methylglyoxal is (somewhat lower). Well it has to be so much higher in fact to reach that 25 UMF+ level.

Methylglyoxal is not the only compound that is responsible for the antimicrobial properties of Manuka Honey and it is only a measure of the quantity or the concentration of Methylglyoxal in the honey. Not totally, the antimicrobial properties or the antimicrobial effect of the honey in total.

UMF is a measure of how effective it is against certain bacteria. Methylglyoxal is a measure of the concentration of Methylglyoxal compound in the honey.

So if you have any comments, please comment to us and we will come back to you on that. Or if you think that other people could be interested in this explanation, please feel welcome to share this with other people.

Manuka Honey For Wound Care

Is Manuka Honey good for healing wounds on the Skin?

The short answer is that IT IS GREAT for treating wounds on the skin. It is very effective when used in both gel and bandage form. Manuka Honey For Wound Care is something that everyone can do at home.

How does Manuka Honey For Wound Care work?

Methyglyoxal (MG) is the unique anti-bacterial compound term that gives Manuka honey its turbo charged healing abilities (also called MGO via a company trademark) and it’s very important for wound healing in particular.  It is suggested that this one compound (Methyglyoxal) could be responsible for up to 90-95% of the total Manuka Honey anti-bacterial activities (source: Prof. Henle, 2017).

The PH of Manuka honey is between 3.5 and 4.5.  That makes it “acidic” in nature.

Ways Manuka Honey can help with common household wounds include:

  • Common everyday surface wounds
  • Minor cuts and lacerations
  • Abrasions
  • Minor burns and scolds

Common wound pathogens (bacteria) that Manuka Honey can attack include:

  • aureus
  • aeruginosa
  • Coli
  • epidermidis
  • aureus – MRSA
  • faecalis
  • pyogenes
  • perfringens
  • albicans
  • niger

There are four products in the Manuka Health Wound Care range.

The wound Gel,

  • The wound dressings and
  • The Breast Pads,

All products are sterilized, and all products are made with New Zealand medical grade Manuka Honey.

The Wound Gel comes in a 30g presentation. Each tube has a flip top and all tubes are sealed so that you know the tubes haven’t been previously used.

Each tube of Wound Gel contains 94% Manuka Honey and 6% naturally derived gelling agents. The gelling agents allow the user to place the gel into the wound.

Each tube of wound gel has Methylglyoxal 250 medical grade Manuka Honey.

New speaker: Professor Thomas Henle   Technical University of Dresden.

Well Methylglyoxal is definitely the unique antibacterial compound of Manuka Honey. There maybe some other compounds which slightly enhance the antibacterial activity, but without Methlyglyoxal, definitely no activity. 90-95% of the total activity is definitely due to Methylglyoxal.

The Manuka Health Wound Gel can be used on all surfaces. Abrasions or grazes, minor cuts and lacerations and minor burns and scolds.

Once you have applied the Wound Gel to the wound, you will require a secondary dressing.  The ideal dressing is a Manuka Health Wound Dressing. Followed by tape or a bandage to secure the wound gel and dressing in place.

The Manuka Health family of products, the Wound Gel and the Wound Dressings are designed to be used together or separately.

The Manuka Health Wound Dressings come in two popular sizes. 5 x 7 cm and 10 x 10 cm.

They come in standard medical packaging, which is easily opened and each dressing has three components.

1)  First component is a plastic liner which covers the specialized gel pad. We say that a customer required 25% more dressing than they have wound.

If they wish to cut the dressing, it’s best to cut it with the plastic liner on, because it provides stability to the gel dressing.

2)  Remove the plastic liner. The second component is the 3mm layer of specialized gel pad, which is 20% Manuka Honey. The Manuka Honey used in the dressing is Methylglyoxal 400 (MG 400).

3)  The third component of the dressing is the cotton breathable backing.  You can see how conformable the dressing is.

The Manuka Health wound dressings can be used on all surface wounds abrasions or grazes, minor cuts and lacerations and minor burns and scolds.

This specialized honey hydrogel dressing denotes moisture to the wound.

Both the Wound Gel and dressings maintain a moist wound healing environment. Each dressing will absorb up to three times its weight in wound exudate and you will know when to change the dressing when the edges appear wet or saturated.

You will require a tape or bandage to keep the dressing in place.

  • If the wound is not exudating then the dressing can remain in place for 5-7 days.
  • If the wound is exudating then more frequent dressing changes will be required.

The ph of Manuka Honey is between 3.5 and 4.5 meaning it is acidic.  Wound pathogens including MRSA do not survive in an acidic environment.  Manuka Honey has a high glucose concentration Therefore assisting in drawing out inflammation from the wound, this enables wound healing to commence.

The high glucose content also has a rapid deodorizing effect by giving the wound healing cells an alternative food supply and preventing the cells from producing Sulphur and ammonia, which are responsible for the odour.

The Manuka Health Breast Pads come one pair per packet. They are circular and each pad comes on a plastic liner.  We encourage the Breastfeeding Mums to keep the packaging and the liners for use between feeds. Peel the pad off the plastic liner, but do not remove the breathable backing fabric.

This product is ideal for breastfeeding mothers suffering from nipple trauma. At the first sign of a crack or painful nipple, they should be applied.  Some mothers simply use the pads for the cooling and soothing effect that they provide.

Place the gel side of the pad against the nipple, the fabric backing will sit next to the bra, so friction doesn’t occur. The pad will absorb three times (x3) it’s own weight, however once the pads are saturated with breast milk, they will require changing.

Providing that the pads retain good integrity, they can be placed back onto the plastic liners and then into the fridge for an extra cooling effect. They can be reused for upto three (3) weeks.

Video Title: Manuka Honey on Acne

Video Author:  by Cloudy Apples.                     Published Date: September 9, 2014

Hey everyone, it’s Cassie. I am about to go to bed right now and the reason I look like a pile of ground beef is because I am not wearing any make up. I am going to try something that you guys have mentioned a lot in the comments and I have been reluctant to try. Just because putting honey on my face just seems like a very sticky and disgusting experience.

I have been eating a lot of bad food lately and I have mentioned before that when I eat bad food my skin in very easily impacted by it.  Pizza, Ramen Noodles, Deep Fried Pretzels and French Fries. They are all part of me know, so I have got to do something about it.

I’ve got these two really mean monsters right here. These hurt really badly and I also have this little constellation of acne all the way down my jaw.

I am going to try Manuka Honey.  I am going to use it as a Mask for 20 minutes, wash it off and then do a spot treatment, go to bed, wake up and then tell you guys what my first impression of Manuka Honey is.

I feel like it’s going to be really gross. That’s why I have never done it. But everyone in my comments, is like “Guys you gotta try Manuka Honey, it’s the best thing ever!”

I’ve got my 10+ Manuka Honey. My Mom got it for me. I know you can get higher numbers, but my Mom will always go for the cheaper honey if she can. Which I appreciate.

Here we go.  Gooey, Gooey, rich and chewy.

Yes, it feels quite disgusting, but the smell is AMAZING.

My current skincare routine smells really, really bad. It’s Apple Cider Vinegar, Tea Tree Oil and a bunch of really horrible things and Terry Cannot stand it.  I think he will like this a lot better if I end up adopting it into my skincare routine.

I am going to be honest with you guys. It’s kind of burning right now, and I hope that’s normal. I don’t know. I didn’t really look into it, because I wanted this to be a genuine first impression. But I hope the burning will fade. I am going to wait 20 minutes.  Hopefully just using water will be enough to get it off and my face won’t be sticky after. Because that’s one of the reasons why I didn’t want to use it in the first place.

I am going to go wash my hands.

It’s been about 5 minutes. The burning sensation has calmed down and I have to admit that it feels kind of good. It’s been 20 minutes so I am going to go and wash it off. I will let you know how it washes off.

It came off so much easier than I thought it would, my face isn’t sticky at all. My face doesn’t feel too tight or to dehydrated. It just feel good. And I put on some Lip Balm, but I am not going to put on any moisturiser, just because I am going to isolate the Manuka Honey and see if it does what I want it too do.  I am just going to spot treat these big horrible nasties with some Manuka Honey, go to sleep and wake up tomorrow morning and tell you what happens. Because these are the kinds of zits that will be there for weeks if you don’t do something about it.

This is probably going to make a huge mess anyway, but we’ll see.

Urgh.. This feels so gross.

It seems a little bit counter-intuitive to be fighting sugar with sugar.

I am going to go to bed and I will see you guys tomorrow.

Joke involving the boyfriend in the middle here.

Good morning, Well last night pretty much epitomized the reason why I did not want to use honey in the first place.  I am a face sleeper and honey got everywhere.  It’s a sticky terrible mess.

I woke up far earlier than I normally should and I couldn’t get back to sleep, so I like had this huge Missy Elliot Search and I was listening Missy Elliot and now I’m really, really tired.

But, that’s not the only thing that I havae to say about the Manuka Honey.  Despite the fact that the redness is still there, because that’s what hyperpigmentation does in my particular case. Today they don’t even hurt. If you couldn’t see the redness I wouldn’t be able to tell that I had breakouts.

There is nothing there that a little concealer can’t fix, so I am very, very intrigued. Obviously using a moisturising after you have cleansed is a good idea, but I didn’t do it because I wanted to isolate the honey to see what it did to my skin and all of my blemishes are visible but, they are less intense and they are not painful to the touch.

I am super impressed with that, so I am going to keep using it, but with a moisturiser and if I use it as a spot treatment, I am only going to use it during the day, because night time was horrible.

If you guys have any reviews, good or bad about Manuka Honey, please let me know because I am always in the Comments and now I am going to go and work out, because that is part of my morning routine.

I will talk to you guys soon. Bye.
