Why is Manuka Honey unique?
Methylglyoxal (MG) is unique to Manuka Honey. We do no find a significant amount of this compound in any other honey, even in any other food, we cannot find methylglyoxal (MG). There are small amounts in roasted coffee, but the amounts are one or two orders of magnitude lower when compared with Manuka Honey.
I would rate Manuka Honey as a genuine, functional food. Of course, I know that there are many studies necessary, clinical studies in order to prove the benefits, but I am pretty sure that Manuka Honey are one of the few items, one of the few food items that such a beneficial effect can be shown.
